Half Truths
Sundays 4pm
They are simple phrases. They sound Christian—like something you might find in the Bible. We’ve all heard these words. Maybe we’ve said them. They capture some element of truth, yet they miss the point in important ways.
Join Adam Hamilton in searching for the whole truth by comparing common Christian clichés to the message and ministry of Jesus.
New Book Study
When Christians Get It Wrong
Begins Sunday, June 5
More and more young adults have opted out of Christianity and the church. The reason? Christians. When young adults talk about the problems they have with Christianity and the church, they often name certain attitudes and behaviors they believe are practiced too often by Christians: judging others, condemning people of other faiths, rejecting science, injecting politics into faith, and being anti-homosexual. With his familiar style, Adam Hamilton tackles these issues and addresses the how’s and why’s of Christians getting it right when it comes to being Christ in the world. Those who read When Christians Get It Wrong will gain a different way of understanding the issues that keep people away from Christianity and keep Christians from living a more compelling faith. Because, honestly, if we don’t start getting it right, we may lose an entire generation

FIVE MARKS OF A METHODIST
As we embrace this New Year, we are recalling and reflecting upon our spiritual heritage as Wesleyan Christians. To help with our reflections, we are using Steve Harper’s Book, “Five Marks of a Methodist” (Abingdon Press, 2015) as a five week sermon series and Bible/Book study.
We affirm that a Wesleyan Christian “Rejoices In God”.
Not A Silent Night
The Advent Season will soon be upon us. During this Advent Season Pastor Scott will be focusing his sermons on the book “Not a Silent Night” by Adam Hamilton.
NEW BIBLE STUDY
“Why?”

Where is God when tragedy and suffering strike?
When the ground shakes, and a poor nation’s economy is destroyed; when the waters rise, washing away a community’s hopes and dreams; when a child suffers neglect and abuse; when violence tears apart nations; where is God? If God is all powerful, and if each one of us is a beloved child of God, then how can God allow tragedy and suffering to infest his creation?
In Why?, best-selling author Adam Hamilton brings fresh insight to the age-old question of how to understand the will of God. Rejecting simplistic answers and unexamined assumptions, he lays out core ideas for comprehending God’s plan for the world, including:
God will not take away our free will, even when we use it to grieve him.
God will never abandon us, especially in the midst of our suffering.
While God is not the author of suffering, God will bring blessing out of tragedy.
If you have ever asked “Why?” this study is for you. The study will begin on Sunday, September 13th at 4:00pm Please let Pastor Scott or Mitzi know if you would like to order a study book.
Breathe – WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY
Beginning July 30 and continuing on Thursday evenings 6pm – 8pm through September 3rd.
Please join us as we explore how to make time for God and worship in our busy schedules. This will be an enlightening study that will help us all.
We are in bondage to busyness. We constantly strive to complete the limitless to-do lists that hinder us from experiencing all that God has for us. We miss the moments because we rush ahead to the next thing. It is time for us to breathe and build margin into our lives for God. Sabbath was intended as a gift, and it is still a gift to us today. If you are weary, worn out, and exhausted the concept of Sabbath will change your life.
by Adam Hamilton

Adam Hamilton’s book, Revival Faith As Wesley Lived It. From my point of view this study will be the most important study to date that I have held at Perry. Revival is important because it introduces to many of us and refreshes to only a few of us the heritage of faith that we have received from John and Charles Wesley. The Wesleyan movement of the 18th Century brought about a great revival for God in England and eventually in America. The United Methodist Church is the direct recipient of that Wesleyan faith heritage. Here in Southern WV, we have too long neglected the specifics of that faith heritage. Recently, someone relatively new to Perry asked, “Who is this Wesley?” When you hear such questions you know that it is time to act. Hence, we begin with Revival. Hopefully, after Revival we all will have a better idea why we believe, think, and speak the way we do as United Methodists.
I have been a lifelong Methodist (my grandfather, Rev. “Zebe” Mayberry, was a Methodist-Episcopal Church South pastor) and thus Wesleyan faith tenets (such as “regular means of grace”) are not so new to me. However, for someone that is new (or even not so new) to the United Methodist Church phrases such as, “We are going on to perfection in love!” must seem mysterious if not outlandish. Yet such phrases are uniquely Wesleyan and we should be comfortable using them. In Revival we have a unique educational opportunity to bolster our own journeys of faith as we learn about our Wesleyan heritage. Our video leader and author of Revival is none other than Rev. Adam Hamilton. Rev. Hamilton leads the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas—it is United Methodism’s largest congregation. Rev. Hamilton is a remarkable man of God and, I believe, has the same desire as our spiritual forefather, John Wesley, who penned in his journal “Instantly I resolved to dedicate all my life to God, all my thoughts, and words, and actions.” I invite us, sisters and brothers, to do the same. See you at Revival.
Grace and Peace to all,
Pastor Scott
